Title

Remarks on Cyber at the Council on Foreign Relations

Description

In this speech, William Lynn III (Secretary of Defense) talks about how the Department of Defense is handling cybersecurity. He begins the speech by talking about the threat of cyber attacks. Lynn reveals that the DOD has already experienced damaging attacks and is "probed" thousands of times a day. It is not clear what "probed" means, but he is very clear that the cyber threat is very real and something needs to be done. After describing what is at risk (infrastructure, government systems, etc.), Lynn talks about the Department of Defense's five pillar strategy.

Lynn recognizes that United States' defenses are better than they have been, but cyber must be an integral part of their "doctrine" and "organizational structures" in order to stay ahead of the looming (and current) cyber threats facing the nation today.

Lynn speaks about the Department of Defense's strategy at many events. To gain more information from Lynn, his interview with Charlie Rose includes different topics than Lynn says in prepared speeches.
